‘Your Stand is your Brand’ Patrick Gentempo
One of the core themes of the legacy program is uncovering our philosophy both in business and in life. The aim is to make congruent what I call your Credo into a super mission statement and set of values.
In a nutshell we look to uncover your Ultimate Mission Statement (UMS) and your Character Strengths (CS). By establishing these we strive to leave a lasting Legacy (L) in business and in life.
The simple formula is: UMS + CS = L
Like any concept we come across however, it is way easier to nod our heads and say ‘I get it’. But we really ‘Got it’?
To go from get to got, requires a model to understand the very importance as to why such an undertaking as establishing your credo is of vital importance. In other words, it is a perceived level of value that will nudge us from ‘Meh, this crap won’t serve me in business and life’ to ‘Wow, this stuff is real, powerful and of utter importance in business and life’.
That is the key shift which is in essence a mindset shift of sorts.
The diagram below is a way of valuing and seeing the importance of establishing the foundation and cornerstone of success.
At the bottom exists the most integral part of establishing any successful business. This cornerstone to success is your business and life credo. Your Legacy begins by inverting the common paradigm which suggests your brand is your stand.
Flip that around and we have ‘Your Stand is your Brand’. This wonderful quote and title of the highly recommended book by Patrick Gentempo, focuses first on the who, the what and the why of our existence as a business and human being.
It gets to the core of the matter so that we have the solid ground on which to traverse the ups and downs; the victories and the losses that we all encounter in business and life.
It is designed to give you an ultimate identity that makes you an operator and person of substance who overcomes the obstacles and challenges of business and life.
As the great stanza in the poem ‘What if’ signifies: If you can keep your head whilst all around you are losing theirs…’
When everything in business and in life seems to be falling to shit, you can be assured that a well thought out and articulated ultimate mission statement and set of character strengths goes a long way to keeping your head above waters when the tide of challenges and obstacles comes your way.
If your branding seems to not be aligned with your marketing and your messaging is not filtering through to prospects in your business, go back to the cornerstone of success, your business credo. That is the key to getting you unstuck and providing with an authentic platform in which to thrive even when the going gets tough.
